Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences
Climate research combines a multitude of scientific disciplines. Nevertheless, the predominant part is still attributed to natural sciences. The subjects of meteorology, oceanography, geosciences, biology and geography have a particularly strong and direct connection with the topic. But even within this array of research fields, research questions are often addressed using an interdisciplinary approach. How does the climate system work? What are external, what are internal factors? How do humans alter the Earth and how does it affect the climate? How do people, animals and plants adapt? The development of complex computing models is a crucial contribution to the study of climate change, this is where mathematics and computer sciences come into the picture as highly important disciplines.
